General Information
about Lang Co-Hue Bay
Lang Co Bay (‘Village of the Storks’) is located in central Vietnam and at the bottom of Vai Van Pass (Pass of the Cloud – at an altitude of 496 m) which comprises two different climatic zones.
It is served by Highway No 1, the central road going to Hue, an ancient imperial town classified as a UNESCO World Heritage in 1993.
Lang Co is part of a larger natural set which includes mountains, a river, a lagoon, an island and a 32-km beach.
This natural diversity generates an important biodiversity, including protected marine species such as corals, molluscs, fishes, shellfishes and turtles. Its ecosystems of high biological value are also economically important, as the natural resources are used in the fishing industry, the production of everyday utensils (such as bags and baskets) and fertiliser or even in medical products (active substances extracted from coral).
Due to its location and its natural and cultural wealth, the bay is part of the national tourism development plan and the government has the willingness to protect and enhance its natural and cultural wealth.
